OBRA (Observe, Bridge, Respond, Art) is a Interdisciplinary Latinx arts group based in Charlotte, North Carolina. We offer educational programs and highlight Latinx and immigrant artists through classes, workshops, exhibitions, artist studios, and artist support.

Ofrecemos programas educativos y destacamos a artistas latinos e inmigrantes a través de clases, talleres, exposiciones, estudios de artistas y apoyo a artistas.

Our History
OBRA se formo en 2013. Algunos de los miembros estaban involucrados con una organización, la Coalición Latinoamericana, en Charlotte en ese momento. Nos inspiró una caravana de inmigrantes indocumentados que viajó por todo el país para crear conciencia sobre la reforma migratoria, con el objetivo final de presentarse al DNC. Muchos de los que estaban en la caravana eran artistas. Los invitamos a que vinieran a comer y organizaran algunas actividades artísticas interactivas con nosotros. Nos preguntamos por qué no existía un grupo latino/inmigrante/activista en Charlotte, ¡y decidimos crear OBRA!
OBRA was formed in 2013. A few of the members were involved with a non-profit, the Latin American Coalition in Charlotte at the time. We were inspired by a caravan of undocumented immigrants that traveled across the country to raise awareness about immigration reform, with the end goal to show up for the DNC. Many of those on the caravan were artists. We invited them to come for a meal and to host some interactive art activities with us. We asked ourselves why a Latinx/immigrant/activist themed group did not exist in Charlotte, and decided to create OBRA!
